Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens better known by her stage name Queen Latifah is an American musician, actress, and rapper. Queen Latifah's career in music film and television has resulted in her receiving an Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award Six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah was born in and lived in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita teacher who taught in Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Sr. an officer in the police force. Their divorce occurred in the year Latifah was 10 years old. Latifah lived within the Baptist faith and attended Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah was her stage name before she turned eight. It means very fragile in Arabic. Latifah is who was 5'10" tall forward on the team at her high school, was always a tall girl. She sang "Home" from The Wiz in a performance in her high school. Latifah became a beatboxer for her band, the Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit's original group that included a variety of MCs, as well as the producer DJ Mark 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King recorded a demo of the hip-hop Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was enthralled by the tune. The singer signed Latifah and then released her first track Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
