Take Me Home Country Roads was among Denver's top 10 solo accomplishment after performing with a small group of folk musicians. It was written, co-written and produced by Bill Danoff. Danoff had written the song inspired by Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear the song's early versions and was aware that it was going to be a top 10 chart hit.
